Attention Drivers & Jockeys !
Effective in 2009, the policy for paying mount/drive fees has changed.
In the past, your have been paid each week for each and every mount/drive you made regardless whether or not the horse owner had sufficient money in their account to cover the mount/drive fee. HGCA assumed the responsibility of following up with the owners to collecting. In today’s environment, HGCA can no longer provide this collection service.
Mount/drive Fee Credits to your Account
HGCA will continue to credit your account for each mount/drive you make. However, your weekly check will not include payment for any mount/drive where the horse owner does not have funds in their account.
Your Weekly Statement
The statement that accompanies your check will show the mounts/mounts you are being paid for, as well as those mounts/drives for which you are not being paid. All unpaid mounts/drives will be shown on your statement throughout the meet until the owner deposits funds (or earns purse money) sufficient to cover them.
If the owners account is short, when will I get paid?
You will automatically get paid for any previous NSF mount/mount as soon as funds are deposited by the owner into their bookkeeping account.
How long will these “NSF Items” show on my statement?
NSF’s will appear on your statement until 30 days after the end of a meet. At that time all unpaid mount/drive fee credits will be purged from your account. You will be provided a final statement of all the unpaid items and you may continue to pursue payment directly from the owner on your own.
How will this affect my taxable income?
Unpaid mount/drive fees will not be added to your taxable income.
What can be done to avoid an NSF’s?
When you accept the mount/drive, ask the owner or trainer to make sure that there are sufficient funds on deposit with the horseman’s bookkeeper.
